Why Safety Breakaway Collars Are Essential for Cats

Cats are natural explorers. Whether they’re climbing, squeezing into small spaces, or sneaking out for an unexpected adventure, their curiosity is part of what makes them so special. But that same curiosity can sometimes put them in risky situations.

A collar with a safety buckle offers the perfect balance between freedom and protection, helping keep your cat safe while they explore the world around them.

Easy Identification

One of the most important reasons for your cat to wear a collar is identification. Even indoor cats can slip outside unnoticed. A collar with an ID tag makes it much easier for someone to recognise that your cat has a home and to help them find their way back to you quickly and safely.

The Safety Buckle: Designed for Real Life

Unlike standard collars, SafeTails collars feature a 360° safety buckle designed to release under pressure from any direction. This is especially important for cats, who love to climb, jump, and explore tight spaces. If the collar gets caught on a branch, fence, or other object, the safety buckle releases to help prevent injury or strangulation.

Track Your Cat with Our AirTag Add-On

For extra peace of mind, our collars can be paired with our AirTag case add-on, allowing you to track your cat’s location using Apple’s Find My network. Whether your cat is an outdoor explorer or an indoor escape artist, the AirTag add-on helps you keep tabs on where they are. It’s a simple, discreet way to stay connected and act quickly if your cat wanders further than expected.

Style Meets Safety

A cat collar doesn’t have to be purely practical. With a range of colours, you can choose a look that suits your cat’s personality while still prioritising safety. When you purchase two or more collars, you can mix and match them to create a custom look for your little explorer.

Why Cats Love Safetails

As reviewed onJudge.me Reviews

Luna & Laura

Luna & Laura

Our cat Luna is basically our third child 😼, so I'm picky about what she wears. This collar is awesome — soft like silicone baby products and super easy to adjust. The clever breakaway buckle gives me extra reassurance ✨, especially since she loves squeezing into weird spaces 🐾.

Really smart design — finally a collar that's easy to clean and doesn't hold onto fur or smells. It adjusts smoothly and fits perfectly. My cat loves it!

If you pull hard, the collar stretches or unfastens, which ensures the safety of my cats 😻. Thanks to the manufacturers for a quality product 🙌❤️

Will the collar fit my cat?

We include three soft silicone bands (S/M/L), so your cat will get the perfect fit. For very small or very large cats, please confirm their neck circumference falls within our supported range: 7.4–11.4 in (18.8–29.0 cm) before backing.

How does mix and match work?

Each collar is made up of multiple parts: two soft silicone bands, a breakaway buckle, an ID tag hook and a closing pin. If you purchase two or more collars you can mix and match these parts to create a totally personalized look for your cat!

Is this collar suitable for indoor cats too?

Definitely. All indoor cats should wear an identification. It only takes a few moments of oversight for your kitty to slip outdoors. A SafeTails cat collar with an ID tag is your cat’s ticket home after an unplanned outdoors adventure.

Does AirTag tracking work everywhere?

AirTag tracking works best in urban areas where there are nearby Apple devices. AirTags use Bluetooth and Apple’s Find My network—so the more devices around, the more frequent and precise the location updates. In sparsely populated or remote areas, updates can be less frequent because there are fewer devices to relay the signal. (Requires an iPhone or other Apple device using Find My.)

What is your 30-day return policy?

We believe — and so do many veterinarians — that any cat who can tolerate a collar should wear one. However, it’s important to acknowledge that a small percentage of cats simply won’t accept wearing any collar.

If you notice that your cat repeatedly removes the collar, we offer a 30-day return guarantee, no questions asked.

For outdoor cats, we recommend letting them wear the collar indoors under supervision at first. This way, you can observe how your cat reacts and still make use of the return option if they scratch it off.
